1. Can I play chess for free?
Yes. All features of ChessAge.com are absolutely free of charge. You can play online chess without paying a cent.
1. What does CAELO mean?
CAELO is the ChessAge ELO and is rating a player's strength.
2. How is the CAELO being calculated?
CAELO is beeing calculated with some formula similar to the FIDE rating system. The exact algorithm will be presented here soon.
3. What is the CAELO-Index?
The CAELO-Index is the number of finished tournaments of a player.
4. What is the reliabilty of a player?
The reliabilty of a player depends on his last 100 games and shall indicate how reliable he is.
Formula:
Reliability = 100 - games lost on time
Example: a player has lost 16 games out of 100 on time. His reliability is 84%. So he isn't able to join a tournament open to players with reliability>=90% anymore.
5. When does a tournament start?
A tournament starts as soon as all free places have been taken.
6. May I use books, databases or my computer in the games?
No. All chess resources are forbidden.
7. Why is my time still running although I'm on vacation?
The time's still running but if the time's up on vacation 24 hours will be added without losing the game. In that way player can submit moves from an internet cafe and cancel unneeded vacation.
