The deadline to sign up for the 1st ChessAge Championship is 20th July 2005 Midnight - GMT. You must have played at least 10 games and be at least 80% reliable.
The format for the tournament is a knockout system. The top rated player plays the lowest rated player, the 2nd highest plays the 2nd lowest, etc. Alphebetical order is used when two players have the same rating. The higher rated player has the black pieces (except in the final round) and must challenge the lower rated player. Whoever wins gets to move on. In the event of a draw, the player with the black pieces moves to the next round. After the game is finished, post your results on this thread so that I can create pairings for the next round. Time controls are 3/11.
In the final round, 6 games are played. Each player plays three games as white and three as black. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker game is used in which the lower-rated player gets white.
For now, this tournament is not official. I am still trying to contact Artur to make the format easier to follow and the championship official.
Post here if you have any questions or want to sign up.
Message to send if you are signing up (only what is underlined, the part in the paragraphs after it that isn't underlined does not need to be included):
Put me in! (Your name here)
I'll be playing as well. I hope to be competing in a large group.
