„ADD this VARIANT”

maykx 06.03.08 23:02

There is this "ADD this VARIANT" at the bottom of each board I play.  What does this do?

Thanks for answering.

In correspondence chess, players sometimes send *conditional moves* to the opponent. i.e. "if you play Bb3 then I'll play Nf6 or if Qxf5+ then Kh8." Many players do not like to recieve conditional moves, including myself. Opponents will claim they send conditional moves to save time, but whether it is intended or not it can sometimes sound as though the opponent is badgering you or harrasing you. But here at ChessAge conditional moves can be sent as a continuation of the move you just submitted. After you drag and drop your piece then you can drag and drop your opponent's piece to where you think s/he will move and then make your next move. When your opponent recieves your move they cannot see your conditional move(s). If they make the move you have predicted they will make, then after they click on the *submit* button, your game will appear again in the *Running Games* list with your next move. I was a little surprised the first few times it happened, but I did not feel offended like I do by a lengthy analysis by my opponent explaining why I should make certain moves. Good or bad I like to do my own thinking. I'll make my own mistakes "thank you". If you want to send variants then be sure to click the little box on the left of where it says, *ADD THIS VARIANT*

Thanks Willy.

I'm familiar with this conditional moves.  I thought the function of this ADD this VARIANT is something like a DATABASE where you see your own next move (in previous games) on a particular position (if such position exists)

Thanks again for this INFO!
